Kylie Harris joined Celtic in March 2022 as our PR specialist. She is responsible for writing press releases and articles, pitching to the media, managing other day-to-day tasks, and building relationships with our amazing clients. Her first day was beer tasting for Sláinte Slam. If that wasn’t the most Celtic introduction to our agency, we don’t know what is.

Born and raised in Utah, Kylie moved to Wisconsin in April 2021 and has loved it ever since. We were excited to sit down with her and ask her a few questions.

How did you end up working in the industry?
I went to college at Weber State University in Ogden, UT, and I had the HARDEST time figuring out what I wanted to do because I enjoyed so many things. I loved writing, reading, art, education, psychology, nature – you name it, I probably considered it.

After taking a general communications class, I looked more into public relations. I ultimately decided to make that my major because anything and everything needs PR! I (virtually) graduated in 2020 with my bachelor’s degree in public relations.

What do you enjoy the most about your job?

There are a lot of things I enjoy about my job. The thing I like the most is the range of clients we have. I get to do public relations for a few different industries, like finance, education, outdoor recreation, consumer products, fitness and more. Our clients are also great and easy to work with. I also love the team I work with every day. They are fun, welcoming, and very hardworking.

What’s the best career-related advice you’ve ever received?

The best advice I ever got was to consider working at an agency. During college, I was dead-set on working in-house or for a non-profit. I was scared to jump into a fast-paced, multi-client work environment.

But an alumnus from my university told me that she landed her sweet PR job at a San Francisco art museum because of her agency experience. I’m glad I followed her advice and applied for a job here at Celtic! I’d now give that same advice to anyone looking to work in public relations.

What would you be doing if you weren’t working in the marketing and advertising industry?

That’s a tough one. Being a librarian would be a lot of fun because I love reading and researching. But I also think it would be fantastic to work outdoors, maybe as a wildlife photographer.

When you’re not working here at Celtic, what are you doing?

I usually hang out with my fiancé and our two corgi pups, Lulu and Ollie. I also love reading, sleeping, and backyard birding.

What’s your favorite bar in Milwaukee?

Unfortunately, I haven’t been to many bars in Milwaukee… But I think my favorite one (so far) is Up Down. They have a lot of fun arcade games and good pizza.

Do you have any weird phobias?

I have a terrible fear of tornados. And I think it’s weird because I grew up in Utah, where tornados are rare. My aunt showed me the movie “Twister” when I was young, and it’s never been the same since.

What is your dream vacation destination?

Iceland. It is so beautiful! I’ve always wanted to see the northern lights and the cute little puffins.

What is the first thing you’d do if you won the lottery?

I’d probably hire a lawyer. Then buy a house with a big backyard. And hopefully, save some of the money.
