Is Black Friday irrelevant in today’s retail world? Back in the day, retailers held all their “door busters” and best deals until the day after Thanksgiving. Today, Black Friday is strung out over an entire week (if not more)! We have Gray Thursday, Black Friday, Small Biz Saturday, Sofa Sunday and Cyber Monday. Can you say “overkill.”

The media is reporting an 11 percent drop in Black Friday sales in comparison to last year. Despite the dismal number, I wouldn’t panic just yet. Consumers have been reprogrammed in recent years to shop for mega deals all the way up to Christmas Day. The holiday spend is happening over weeks…not days.

This article from Businessweek does a nice job of explaining the current state of Black Friday.

Happy shopping!
